Hampton City Council Approves FY27 Budget with Focus on Education and Infrastructure

The Hampton City Council has approved the Fiscal Year 2027 budget, totaling $708,640,649, marking a 4.3% increase over the previous fiscal year. The real estate tax rate remains at $1.14 per $100 of assessed value, following four consecutive years of reductions from $1.22. City Manager Mary Bunting emphasized that adjustments to the tax rate are based on annual property assessments.

Education remains a priority, with Hampton City Schools receiving $327,998,571. This includes $101,902,502 from the city, exceeding the state’s required match by $40,663,060. The budget also allocates funds for infrastructure improvements, public safety enhancements, and community development projects.

City officials developed the budget after considering extensive feedback from residents and community members, aiming to address the city’s needs while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
